PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla., Oct 11, 2021 – A 69-year-old man endured a fall that resulted in three non-healing ulcers. After unsuccessful treatment and visits to various clinics, he was healed with the help of ActiGraft®, an natural solution for the management of non-healing wounds.
Luciano “Lou”, 69, suffered a fall that resulted in three cuts on his legs – one on his left, and two on the right. Upon realizing the wounds weren’t healing, he visited a wound care center to seek help. While at the center, the scabs that formed over his cuts were removed, but this caused the wounds to grow at an out-of-control rate.
Soon after, Lou discovered that he developed an infection – MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus). He was prescribed antibiotics to address the infection but his wounds remained unhealed.
MRSA is a type of staph bacteria that is resistant to several antibiotics including: penicillin, amoxicillin and methicillin. If a vulnerable patient’s wound is infected with MRSA, it can delay wound healing and be potentially life threatening. Those more vulnerable to having an adverse reaction to MRSA includes the elderly, the immunocompromised or those with underlying diseases such as diabetes. Individuals in this population often have limited treatment options for their wounds, so MRSA complicates what treatment options they have available.
A few weeks later, Lou was offered to try ActiGraft®, an innovative product from RedDress. This wound care solution is the first of its kind to recreate the natural healing processes of the body by utilizing the patient’s own blood to create an autologous blood clot tissue that is applied topically to the wound site.
In just the first few applications, Lou noticed a difference in the size of his wounds.
Within sixteen weeks, Lou’s wounds were fully healed and he was able to return to his favorite activities – cooking, gardening, woodworking and swimming.
“It was a great feeling – once your pain starts going away, and once you start getting a good feeling that you see your wounds healing – it is the best thing in the world!” said Lou.
When an individual’s skin is cut or injured, the body is able to heal itself by following these four overlapping processes – hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation and remodeling. For these processes to work, it’s essential that blood can get to the site of the wound, otherwise, it can delay the process. Using ActiGraft and applying the blot clot tissue to the site of the wound, serves as a protective covering and recreates the healing process.
“We set out to create a product that would help millions in the United States who are suffering from non-healing wounds,” said Alon Kushnir, CEO of RedDress. “We understand the burden chronic wounds have on individuals and their families. ActiGraft is an effective and comfortable solution to assist those seeking to heal their wounds.”
